How can you retain talent within an organization?

"Retaining talent" is a term that, etymologically speaking, implies a unilateral action, almost against the will of the employee.

We suggest using appropriate language in human resources planning and talking more precisely about "retaining talent."

Poor planning for talent retention has counterproductive effects on the organization's development in the short and medium term.

Once the first challenge of attracting talent has been resolved, we can plan the next stage. Although we know that an adequate talent attraction process minimizes the risk of failure by incorporating high-performance professionals, the need then arises to retain these professionals within the organization in the long term, and this is the second challenge of talent retention.

According to a study released by McKinsey, the average cost of losing a good executive hire is approximately $29,600.

Organizations that apply best practices in people management go beyond the annual employee engagement survey to identify what truly motivates their employees. Instead, they take it one step further by creating individual experiences tailored to those motivations.

The same McKinsey study adds that the main needs of employees in 2022 will focus on experience factors, such as:

  • Workplace safety.
  • Flexibility of working hours.
  • Financial stability.
  • The balance between work and personal life.
  • To be treated fairly.
  • Work toward goals rather than trading your time transactionally.

At Wiseplan, we have been applying our personalized methodology for attracting executive talent for more than 12 years. This methodology includes an onboarding phase that facilitates the fit with the organization's culture, the team that manages and directly reports to the hired professional, thus ensuring the loyalty of this new talent and their long-term retention, achieving a return on the hiring investment.
