Transparency: This ranking is published by Wiseplan, which is also a participant and ranks first. Wiseplan defined the criteria and their weightings based on what it considers most important when hiring this service; they are applied equally to all options. It evaluates information published by each company and does not replace a quote or an assessment of the quality of their work.
If you'd like to learn more about Wiseplan's services, check out their payroll outsourcing page.
The payroll outsourcing ranking was compiled by reviewing each company’s official website and assigning scores based on fixed criteria and weightings. First, options were searched for online; then, portals, directories, and sites that did not offer the service were eliminated; and finally, the homepage, up to three internal pages, and the table of contents of each company’s blog were reviewed.
Each criterion is awarded 0, 1, or 2 points: 0 if it is not present, 1 if there is only one reference to it, and 2 if the site uses terms that show it explicitly offers the feature. The terms that earn points are the same for all companies. Each point must be supported by a direct quote from the site; without a quote, it does not count. The total is 100 points, and in the event of a tie, the results are ranked alphabetically. The weightings reflect what Wiseplan considers a priority for this service; with different priorities, the order could change.
| Criterion | What Was Reviewed | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Document management | Handles contracts, addenda, severance payments, vacation time, leaves of absence, and absences | 20% |
| Access and Self-Service | It offers an extranet or online access and a self-service portal for employees | 20% |
| Private role | It offers a confidential compensation service for executives and senior management | 15% |
| Attendance Tracking | It incorporates attendance tracking in accordance with the Labor Department | 15% |
| Labor Law Representation | Provides legal defense in labor matters or representation in court proceedings as part of the service | 15% |
| Reports | Provides reports or statistics to support people management decisions | 15% |
Limitations: A company may do more than it reports on its website, and that doesn't count toward the score. We reviewed 25 companies and selected 12 that provided sufficient information. If your company is missing or some information has changed, you can request a correction.

When outsourcing payroll services, it is essential to comply with the Labor Code and Law 20.123 on subcontracting, ensuring that the service provider adheres to labor and social security requirements. In addition, the provider must guarantee the confidentiality and protection of personal data in accordance with Law 19.628 and Law 21.719. This helps avoid legal risks and protects workers’ rights.
Law 21,561 establishes a maximum workweek of 40 hours, which means that outsourcing companies must adapt their processes to accurately calculate hours worked, overtime, and breaks. This ensures that pay is accurate and complies with current regulations, avoiding penalties and guaranteeing the well-being of employees in the workplace.
Payroll outsourcing allows management and executives to focus on strategic talent management by delegating complex and administrative tasks to experts. This improves payroll accuracy, reduces legal risks, and optimizes time. Additionally, it facilitates regulatory compliance and ensures the confidentiality of information, contributing to more efficient and secure people management.
The protection of personal data in outsourcing is ensured through compliance with Law 19,628 and Law 21,719, which regulate the processing, storage, and safeguarding of sensitive information. The provider must implement security protocols, restrict access to authorized personnel, and obtain informed consent, thereby ensuring confidentiality and preventing legal violations.
The Karin Act establishes that the contracting company is jointly and severally liable for compliance with labor and social security obligations in subcontracting. In payroll outsourcing, this means that the company must ensure that the service provider complies with labor regulations and correctly pays social security contributions, thereby avoiding legal risks and penalties.
Failing to rely on a trustworthy outsourcing provider can lead to errors in payroll calculations, violations of labor laws, delayed payments, and breaches of personal data. This results in fines, labor lawsuits, and a loss of internal trust. Furthermore, it damages the organization’s reputation and can complicate human resources management at both the strategic and operational levels.
Law 20.123 regulates subcontracting, stipulating that the principal company must ensure compliance with labor rights and social security obligations for outsourced workers. In payroll outsourcing, this means that the company must select providers that comply with the law and maintain constant oversight to prevent noncompliance and joint and several liability.
When selecting a payroll outsourcing company, consider its experience with Chilean labor laws, regulatory compliance, technological capabilities, data confidentiality, and the quality of its customer service. It is also essential to evaluate its ability to adapt to legal changes such as Law 21,561 and the Karin Law, as well as its reputation for efficient and secure payroll management.
